 A romantic abode ( français )

In a romantic park overlooking the Seine, on the former site of a priory, in the late 18th century, an Empire general built the castle which was later home to two celebrities:  Casimir Delavigne, a French 19th century poet, then baron Thenard, a scientist, inventor of hydrogen peroxide. The wife of the latter, influenced by her travels to Italy, embellished the castle with an unbridled creativity: high reliefs, construction of a peristyle and a huge rococo facade: adorned colonnades, sculptures and Corinthian capitals , mosaics,,,...

Home of some famous personalities, often inspired, always passionate, this many-faceted castle with its composite architecture has now been a family home for 30 years. Listed as ancient monument, located near Giverny and the Claude Monet museum, between Paris and Rouen, the Château de la Madeleine is a romantic house where life is sweet.

On the ground floor, all the reception rooms, bathed in light, offer a wonderful view over the Seine. The main lounge, white and grey, is decorated with mirrors, beautiful mouldings and paintings, a fireplace in white marble and inlaid floors. The second room, also decorated, and remarkable for its mosaic floor, has multiple French windows opening on a peristyle with its covered terrace surrounded by eight columns and Corinthian capitals. The chapel dedicated to Saint Adjutor, of soft and simple proportions, presents an original feature of  alcoves which hidden staircases lead up to. From the castle entrance, you can access the chambres d’hôtes (guest rooms) by a white stone staircase..

We are constantly continuing the renovations of the castle and hope to develop projects such as opening a vegetable sculpture garden, construction of rooms in the trees, rebuilding a Napoleon III cottage, the restoration of fountains and of the deer pond.
